UPDATE: Perspective from Cannes PR Lion Judges

June 25, 2009

Just through reading this article from Karen Strauss and Teresa Garcia Cisneros of Ketchum in AdAge about the rigor of the judges in selecting “The Best Job in the World” for the Cannes PR Lion.

I’m guessing it’s not just feedback from my blog post that has prompted the need for some sort of explanation by the judges and they should be applauded for the work they did in judging as well as responding to questions from people like me about the decision.

However, it still does not change the fact that the reaction by most people I know in the PR industry by this decision is disappointment or apathy. I’m very much in this camp.

“Best Job” is a beautiful and big idea. It generated a massive amount of global media attention and publicity. But in its heart of hearts, was it a PR-led campaign? Maybe as much as Microsoft’s “I’m a PC” or Barack Obama’s presidential campaign?
